Why the Dead Sea Is Different
The sea’s extraordinarily high salt and mineral content makes floating effortless, an experience that surprises almost every first-time visitor, while the mineral-rich black mud found along the shoreline is prized for its skin and circulation benefits. The lower altitude also filters out harmful UV rays, allowing longer sun exposure than at sea level.

We rarely recommend the Dead Sea as a standalone destination; instead, it works best as the restorative final leg of a Jordan itinerary, following the more physically demanding days spent exploring Petra and Wadi Rum. The drive from Amman is under an hour, making it an easy addition even to shorter itineraries.
A Nearby Detour: Mount Nebo and Madaba
Just above the Dead Sea, Mount Nebo offers sweeping views towards the Holy Land, traditionally regarded as the site where Moses viewed the Promised Land, while nearby Madaba is known for its extraordinary Byzantine mosaic map of the region, both easily combined with a Dead Sea stay.
Best Time to Visit
Spring and autumn offer the most comfortable temperatures for a Dead Sea stay, though the resorts’ extensive pool facilities make it a viable, restorative stop through much of the year.
